Governor of Tokyo Delivers Lecture on Environmental Protection and Climate Change Challenges

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike delivered a lecture at Kuwait University’s Sabah Al-Salem University City, focusing on environmental protection and climate change challenges. The event was attended by University Director Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, university leadership, faculty members, and students.

Environmental Initiatives

Governor Koike discussed Tokyo’s ambitious policies to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through multiple approaches including solar energy, clean hydrogen, and expanded urban green spaces.

Women’s Empowerment

She highlighted significant progress in Tokyo, noting that “women in Tokyo’s legislative council reached approximately 40%” and that the number of female entrepreneurs has doubled in recent years.

Family Support Policies

The governor emphasized Tokyo’s comprehensive approach to supporting parents through parental leave policies and family-friendly initiatives, contributing to “a more balanced and stable family society.”

Education

Koike praised Kuwait’s investment in higher education, stating that “humans are the true energy source for any society” and that education investment drives sustainable development.

Diplomatic Significance

The governor acknowledged Kuwait’s humanitarian assistance following Japan’s 2011 earthquake and reaffirmed the deep friendship between both nations through this academic exchange.

Kuwait University presented Governor Koike with a photo from KuwaitSat-1, the satellite developed by the university’s research team.
